How to Edit the LexiconAll.dat File in Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield Vietnam
10/31/04
Requirements:
-MDT tools version 2.75 or higher.
This is a simple little conversion tool that converts the lexiconAll.dat file into standard text so that it can be edited and then back again.
Setup
1. If you haven't done so already, copy the lexiconAll.dat file from the default path of "Mods>bf1942" to your mod folder. For example: "Mods>MyMod". It should look similar to this:
Using the Converter
2. Launch the Battlefield MDT tools and from the main screen click on the button labeled "Show All Tools.
3. Open the folder labeled "LexiconAll".
4. With both the "My_Mod" and "LexiconAll" folders open, drag the "lexiconAll.dat" file directly onto "LexTxt.exe".
5. If you did everything correctly, a command prompt window should open like the following:
6. When the text "Press any key to continue..." appears, just do so and the window will close.
7. You should now see a new file in your "My_Mod" folder labeled "lexiconAll.txt.
8. You can now open this with Wordpad or any other text editor to make your changes.
Note: Wordpad is preferable to Notepad because Notepad will display all characters and so on correctly. Notepad may not. If you plan on editing a lot, you may wish to look into a professional text editor, such as UltraEdit. (This is not an endorsement, it's just one that I like and it's cheap.)
9. Once you have made your changes, save the file and just drag the "lexiconAll.txt" file back over "LexTxt.exe" again. It will automatically convert back to the proper format and save it back to your "My_Mod" directory. You're now set to run the game with your changes.
Note: LexTxt.exe will automatically write over your original 'lexiconAll.dat" file. If you want to save the original for some reason, don't forget to make a backup copy of it somewhere.
