Yes, it is known.

Why don't you extract the images from the game files right away?

I'm Sorry my curiosity is killing me here. I am sure I am not the only one who wants to ask the obvious question(s). I mean this is a totally new question on any battlefield modding forum, and after almost 10 years I thought I had heard them all.

What are you doing with them?
Why do they need to be that exact size?
Inquiring minds want to know, and in knowing we just might be able to help you a little more. After all, I am not exactly sure which little map images your talking about myself. The maps in game map is 512x512 and in .dds format. This is no where near 160x120 and square to boot. If you tried to resize the ingame map image to those dimisions you would foobar the aspect ratio thereby making it look like crap.

Now 160x120 in my head looks like the screen resolution of 1600x1200 reduced by 90%. If this is what you seek Sir Knight, then jump in game, go to freecam mode, and when you see what you like hit the old print screen button. Now you have a screen shot with an aspect ration of the screen resolution you are running (1600x1200 in this case). Now just drop this image into your favorite image editor, a little cut, past, a layer or two, reduce, and presto! you have the 160x120 image you seek.

OIC, your using them as images or thumbnails for the website your building with the CMS e107, right?

Looking good so far.

I am test driving e107 & Drupal at the moment as a possibility for upgrading battlefieldsingleplayer I would be really interested in your opinion of e107. In particular how easy is it to learn for people who have little web dev knowledge and have not used a CMS before. I have never used e107 before , but maintain a couple site for clients and use Drupal. I like it, but it's a hard one to teach regular folks. From what I see of e107 so far I like it. Right now the site is old, and held together with bailing wire and duct tape. We built the sight back in 03 with very old versions of php\MySQL. I would build another, but this complicates matters when assigning someone to maintain the sight. Besides it's a real pain in the behind to not only design and build a sight by hand, then go in and make a CMS to operate and maintain it.

By the way my suggestion to get your images will work, give it a try.

I like SMF and the PHPbb boards. PHPbb is more feature rich I think, but SMF is hard to beat.

PHPNuke .. good but as you said .. complex and not for no0b admins.

Drupal is really nice, and super feature rich, nice choice of themes, and tons of kewl plugins. It does tend to be complex, and it takes awhile to get your head around it.

I host through HostGator for $10 bucks/mth with unlimited everything. I have two accounts, one for my business and the other as mentioned for my gaming sites. With unlimited addon domains I have 9 running on my company account and 3 or 4 on bfsp account. Makes it handy and cheap.

You can resize them to 160x120 and turn them into another format such as gif with the batch mode of irfanview
http://www.irfanview.de/

2nd way:

make screenshoots ingame with free cam with Hud = 0 , those screens you will find in your game/screenshoot folder

use again irfanview and batch them to your size & format.

if you have something like an Gif animator (example Ulead) you can make animated pics for your live viewer.

Example:

Another method is you take fraps and record 30 secs ingame.
Then you convert that little video to swf in 160x120 and embedd it in the live viewer instead the pictures.

Result is a preview video you can embed instead the static or gif animated pics....

Example:
