Honestly, the last PB update was back in 2008, so I assume people have been doing undetectable hacks for quite some time now. No big deal.
As for now, PB seems to work perfectly, and although the official support page on evenbalance.com is gone, the client still updates and PBSetup works flawlessly.

Yes for now it works. But the time will come when PB for BF1942 will die.

Can we get a copy of the Windows and Linux files in here, as mentioned in the topic in the pbbans forum?

All bf1942 PB files are still download-able from the evenbalance website. The only thing missing is the links page.
I recovered it from the google cache and saved here: http://dznmods.tk/pb/
