This is part of why I try to make my bot primarily around playing against bots ... I'll be honest, I was pretty sketchy about how long the Conquest servers would last. I want my mod to be fun offline too. But I'm still sad that EA is treating Battlefield like this ... like putting the family dog to sleep.

Hmm, maybe they will give us the source code now?

EA games does not make money on any games on the "death-list" (http://www.ea.com/1/service-updates). And "community" is not a word in contract that the CEO of EA Games signed.

I have noticed that some of the guys on other forums are working on a new master-list server. If they are reverse engineering the protocol, and makes a new server it would solve "most" of the problem!

But, we all know how this works, it crashed, doesnt work properly, or you look for updates.. go internet first (Googgggle it..). So we (community) are gone need to have a website that is top ranked (unpaid), with official/un-offical patches (if EA is giving up on 1942, this isnt gone be too hard). Basically we need to maintain a website that provides patches, so that people will update using "our" master-list..

We are talking community effort to run a website, SEO to keep it at the top (I am sure there is someone in here that is an SEO guy? or girl?). And we should look at teaming up with the guys developing the master-list-server.. (if we patch bf1942.exe, we patch all the URLs ..including registration etc.. ..as in we should!!!)

We might have to drop some coins to fund this..

tuia and s[sk] working on this at http://team-simple.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=2468 .

tuia has had a decent modded exe available at http://team-simple.org/download/ for ages. it includes a patch for the server timeout / freeze bug, and also for true widescreen support. added bonus; unlike every other patch I tried, this one actually worked. always a good sign. so i nominate tuia for any exe patching required :D
