You can't go by IP, really. About 80-90% of internet users have ISPs that provide dynamic IPs. Static IPs are very rare.

What you can do is email users from the old forum and ask if they have accounts on the new forum they used on the new one. I would imagine the email info users used to register on the old forums is still accessible to the admin, so he can just email some of them to get verification.

still very much on the cards.. im doing some job interviews etc yada yadda at the moment so it's down the list.

that said, once I'm settled (in the next month or so) it will happen!

the phpbb guys wanted $100 bucks to do it.. I have been waiting for a good moment!

It's a messy task.. I would like to, for instance pair up your old posts etc.. its merging these usernames / id numbers etc which is painful for anyone other than a bit fo a phpbb /mysql pro.
