Avatars and Forum Sections

Post by fo0k »

(knew I'd delete this thread in error just then..)

soo.... avatars are live.. and forum areas will slowly come as and when needed..

Senshi.. your reply to this post is now lost in the matrix.. just a couple of teething issues here.. sorry.

Then I'll just repeat my request ;)

Avatar filesize limit is set to 0,98KiB, whic is rather poor... ;)

Also my signature picture doesn't work. If I try to add it, I get the error message
"It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image."

Picture is this one:

Dimensions are 500x150...I don't know why it works here but not in the signature...

lol, and to repeat my reply, my avatar is linked offsite, using ImageShack. When you define your avatar by an offsite link, you also have to define it's dimensions, using the boxes below the image line. If you leave it at 0, it's not going to work.

so... I set sig max image height to 100px. Ive removed it and added your sig to test.. you may need to go in and tweak the url :)

Ill check the avatar size limit. I think 150KB will be fair? LMK...
and yeah you seem to have to specify the size if there is not a size limit.. (weird..) its currently set to max size of 120x120

I have noticed the newer phpbb sites all seem to have the name, avatar etc on the right hand side... I agree, its not where i expect it but I have to say that when reading through the threads its more comfortable to just see the info.. and not everyones avatar etc.. I kinda like it..!

I am open to resistance on this one though! heheh

150kb for avatar us definetly enough. Pretty much, actually. I'm used to 10-30 kb limits. Which suffices for such small pictures and prevents people from uploading huge gif animations, torturing eveyone with a poor internet connection...I only had a problem with compressing a pic to 1kb...that causes huge artifacts even for monochrome pics...

Didn't know there was a picture dimension limit for sigs. Definetly is fine now, thanks.

I'd say we test the profile-on-right-side-thingy for some weeks and then poll which style is preferred. I see your point and it might be I come to like it. But it requires probably just some time to get used to it.
