DDS - gradients

Post by reegad »

Hey guys, im having some trouble with DDS and gradients on solid colors..
Anyone got any idea how to get the gradients smooth? it seems i only get it as bad as this when using red and blue colors.. green and yellow are fine.....
I've also tried several different compression methods, but no luck so far, any help is appreciated.

DDS have always trashed the quality of textures I have made.. I'm unaware of a way to improve them..

maybe checkout the tech spec on them from nvidia..

I just tried an exact copy of your image above (but remade the shade to be perfect) and dxt5 (usual settings..) export trashed it more than yours.

I did also try the 24bit RGB settings which appear lossless but no idea if BF will accept that file.

Did you try using Gimp to save your DDS file? It has on option to save it as uncompressed. I vaguely recall being able to use uncompressed DDS files in BF1942 so long as the file had mipmaps.
