"Battlefield 1942 Modding-Wiki" @ bf-mods.com

Post by Poow »

What about a wiki- like tutorial section in the forum/free wiki software next to the forum?
In the Forum(this one and the old ssm) is everything split in hundreds of threads and most of the time you/we have to explain many steps although there are 100 threads but not with exactly the same problem user xyz has.

I imagine some basic articels about making a new mod, the file system, making a new map. (advantage/disadvantage of ED42/BC42)
Making a patch (Serverside modding) something like that. Just once in a clear step by step article. And maybe later some advanced subjects.

I tried this in German some time ago: Serverseitiges Modding (the formatting is a bit buggy since a server update)
I think after some time we have a nice structured info base. For new 1942 modders and the forgetful in equal measure :P

It's a lot of work but I talk about adding small tutorials/explanations from time to time. Not everything within the next 6 weeks.
Instead of writing an answer that is just 70% perfect, make an article in the wiki that is 99% perfect. And if a similar question appears some weeks later, post a link and don't write a new '36% post', that require to read an older thread and all it's nebulous discussion around.

I would love to see a central bf1942 modding wiki/info base.
What do you think?

Cool Idea that would really help me out! :D
Mapper/map textureing/design....

I wash my hands of those who imagine chattering to be knowledge, silence to be ignorance, and affection to be art.

Yeah great idea. What's the best way to add a wiki to a site?
Can you lead this poow? I can look to set you up any (if any..) needed access.

yes, but to have this info in wiki form so it can be edited will result in guides and tutorials which cover all eventuality and problem.. plus the existing tutorials are geared around serverside. we need to open it right up.

That would be this one: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki

I't would be cool to see interest from other members here like senshi, apache etc. :)

@ fo0k
Are you using a web pack or a root server? I still get some down times or slow days.
