Getting windowed mode to actually work. (Vista laptop)

I'm having a lot of trouble getting bf1942 to run in windowed mode on my Vista laptop.

I've changed the

renderer.setFullScreen 1

to

renderer.setFullScreen 0

under mods/bf1942/settings/videodefault.con but for some reason it still doesn't work. It's been a while since I've had a fresh install. Am I forgetting something?

in the shortcut there should be a fullscreen modifier in the target box

...As far as I know BF1942 doesn't have a shortcut command for fullscreen mode. Only BF2 and beyond has that. Though BFV might have it since I haven't checked.

you are doing all you need to do.. always worked for me on everything and including W7

maybe just double check it and make sure you are not going crazy :)

Thanks! I'll check again.

I was having trouble getting Vista to actually let me edit the bloody file, so maybe something strange happened.

As a random sidenote: error messages do still pop up in windowed mode in Vista, correct? I need to do some debugging.

For that, it's generally helpful to know what the error message says ;)

Edit: Scratch my previously posted comment. I found the problem.

I needed to tell Vista to run it as an administrator. I guess if it's not run that way, Vista won't let it check out the relelvant .con file? :?

In any case, windowed mode works now. I only have to deal with Vista asking me to confirm the adminstrator thing every time I run it.
