HTroop v1.0b5 Is Ready For Download!

Post by professor_smith »

Hello Everyone,
HTroop v1.0b5 is now ready to be downloaded. The admins of Battlefield Singleplayer have graciously given me server space to upload HTroop, and I have posted download links below for anyone to download. I just want to note, that though HTroop is on BFSP, it is not only a singleplayer game, and I wish to know if anyone would be willing to host a multiplayer server, as I do not have a server tower myself.

Here are the links to download HTroop v1.0b5:

Thank You And Enjoy!

Please post your comments about HTroop.

I'm not sure exactly what you were talking about in the end there about needing a mapper, but as for the size, check out the vids, read about the mod, and try it out. Trust me, the size is worth it.

Thanks,

Josh

This a mod that just throws a bunch of great mods together so you can enjoy everything about them all at once.
A picture is worth a thousand words, but takes up three thousand times the memory.

I've seen some of the promotional videos you've done for your mod and it makes me want to play it, however I have to agree with montiel... The mod size is bigger than any mod that I know for BF1942... Even the last builds of total conversion mods like EoD or BG42 don't attain such a humongous size.

There is a way to drastically reduce the file size of your mod. It would basically only contain objects that you directly created and modified, with the stuff from other mods being read in your mod's init.con file (located in your mod's root folder). That file is changed to include the paths of all the mods that are required in order to run. Here is an example of the code you would use:

Code: Select all

game.CustomGameName HTroop
game.addmodPath Mods/HTroop/
game.addModPath Mods/X/
game.addModPath Mods/Y/
game.addModPath Mods/Z/
game.addModPath Mods/Bf1942/
Where ''X'', ''Y'' and ''Z'' are the names of the mods you have used content from. And voilà my friend. File size is reduced drastically and only includes your very own custom modifications (such as modified FireArms, PCOs, and so forth).

The only disadvantage with this technique is people downloading your mod will have to have all the mods referenced in the init.con already installed on their computer. If they don't, your mod won't run for them. Also, it is redundant to have a mod that packs stuff from other mods, especially if people already have a mod which has identical content installed on their PC. What I mean by this is that if, for example, you used vehicles, maps or other items from DCX in your mod and the person that installs HTroop also happens to have DCX installed on their computer, they are wasting disk space with redundant mod files. By using the technique I mentionned, there is no redundancy for mod files.

Nonetheless, it is a good initiative from you to come up with this mod. I hope you implement more original content in it (stuff that you made yourself). Good luck with future releases my friend!
