Just another cash holiday. No need to think about it.
Though we even do have something similar in Germany (called "Erntedankfest", literally "Harvest Thank Feast") and most other European nations at the beginning of November...but here it's completely untouched by commerce and a solely private/religious feast, mostly performed in farming villages. The purpose was/is to thank God or whomever for the successful harvest season of the year (which usually is finished around this date). But it's getting very rare, as harvest seasons no longer are "static" as in the past centuries and a bad harvest no longer is life threatening for the farmer family.
