BF2: Play off of external device? (USB)

I am able to play BF1942 off of my external hard drive and flash drives.
But can I do this with BF2? I play offline, no worries for online connectivity.

Okay, I tried it during my Computer Hardware class at college. It runs smoothly, even while running the mods FH2 and Project Reality.
... off of my 500 GB external HDD.

It was a 4-hour class, and sometimes we got done early.
